"Rose City" is a nod to Springfield, Ohio's nickname of "The Rose City" in the 1970s due to its multi-million-dollar production industry.

The logo is inspired by the "grandaddy of them all" bowl games for college football - The Rose Bowl

These two elements give us the meaningful design we see today.
